I met Susan when she started at Microsoft and we worked together in the networking group for a while. We drifted apart when I moved to Boston in late 2001, but when she moved out here, she reached out and we would occasionally get together for lunch etc. She was – to use the local vernacular – *wicked* smart. But, honestly, ‘smart’ isn’t that hard to find. Susan was also *kind*, which can be a lot harder to come by. Her cheer and empathy and joy in things were a delight. We were better for having had her in our lives and we are diminished by the loss of her.
